Data center operations are energy-intensive, and the demand for energy required especially for artificial intelligence workloads is growing rapidly. The objective of this project is to promote the responsibility and environmental sustainability of data centers, particularly through solutions related to improving energy efficiency and utilizing excess heat. The project is part of the Kajaani data center ecosystem activies.

The CEMIS-MESI project intersects themes of circular economy, energy efficiency, material efficiency, and carbon sequestration. Processing of the side streams of forest bioeconomy into value added products (MEBIP) project which is funded by the Council of Oulu Region develops separation methods for utilizing forest bioeconomy side streams. The investigated side streams are coniferous bark, branches, needles and sawdust.
