The development of service innovations supporting sports tourism in Vuokatti can be based on the digital leap in sports measurement, i.e. new state-of-the-art measurement solutions and new data expertise.
The themes selected for the Sports Data and Digitalisation project support Kainuu’s regional goals through the development of measurement technology and by ensuring measurement reliability. They enable demanding data analytics and the development of new applications based on artificial intelligence in the future.
The project consists of the following subareas: wireless sports testing technologies and measurement reliability, increasing of sports data competence, services supporting sports tourism in Vuokatti and their development, increasing national and international RDI cooperation, cooperation with companies, dissemination of information, and publications.
As a whole, the project will be implemented in collaboration between CEMIS operators and the Vuokatti ski resort. It enables opportunities for cooperation with the sports technology sector, data strategy for sport and exercise and other national operators.
All members of the CEMIS network are involved in the project. The Vuokatti Sports Technology Unit of the University of Jyväskylä (JyU Vuokatti) serves as the implementer and coordinator of the main project. JyU Vuokatti, VTT Mikes and KAMK will implement measurement solutions based on sensor technology for measuring athletes’ power output, for example, and for utilising data for coaching purposes. The Measurement Technology Unit (MITY) of the University of Oulu will develop the measurement of the stress hormone cortisol and set up laboratory models describing nutrient absorption. CSC is responsible for the design and implementation of the data management and architecture related to the sports data pool.
